29 April at Reading Golf Club
The seniors team kicked off against Hampshire in our first league fixture at home at The Caversham.
It was a surprisingly hot day for April although not unwelcome. The only issue was trying to find our summer shorts from the back of our wardrobes.
We were very well looked after by the catering team at the club as we had a very lovely spread of sandwiches and seasonal soup before play and delicious lemon drizzle cake after.
The course was in fantastic condition although the greens could prove quite a challenge with their slopes and undulations. There were great wins from Linda and Charlie and Debbie kept the suspense up in the last pairing to win on the 18th hole. There were some tough matches out there playing against a strong team taking them to the end but unfortunately, the overall results yielded our first loss, with Hampshire winning 4 games against Berkshire’s 3.
The team comprised Jane Sly (Mill Ride), Sheree Dove-Wilde (Mill Ride), Linda Hunt (Newbury &Crookham), Tracy Crew (The Caversham), Gayle Kennedy (Royal Ascot), Charlie Keenan (East Berks) and Debbie Ranwell (Calcot).
Our next league fixture is at Newbury and Crookham on the 14th July when we will do our best to bring in a win against Oxfordshire.
