Within the glorious, setting of the Chiltern hills at Harleyford Golf Course, BLCGS struggled against a more impressive team.
Unfortunately, throughout the run up to this match, the team selection kept changing due to injury and illness so, that with only a few days to go, I had to call on my loyal band of Castle Royle Lady Captains.
Thankfully, by Monday, 16th June all seemed set to go. That is until 8 am that morning when a distraught Margaret Berriman phoned to say that, whilst her husband had been placing her clubs into the car, he had tripped and gashed his head and needed to go to A&E. Could she arrive late? Well, after a short discussion, it was decided that it would be best if she forgot about the match, attended to her husband, I would move my partner to her place at the back of the field and I would play the match by myself.
The Harleyford Golf Course was in great condition, with the warm, dry weather creating fast running fairways. Away from the course there were a range of wonderful, life-sized (and frequently bigger) driftwood sculptures by James Doran-Webb looking over the golfers.
I know the course quite well and the rule on the greens is: no matter how you think the ball will travel, it will always head towards the river, so just be mindful where it is! Whether BLCGS ladies remembered the rule is debatable as overall we lost the match 5 and half to 2 and a half.
