Held at Newbury & Crookham on 12th September 2024
BWG thanks go to Newbury & Crookham Golf Club for hosting the 1st Division Autumn meeting.
As N&C are doing some extensive work on hole 7 to improve the drainage this hole was out of play resulting in a 17-hole competition.
The day started out dry but unfortunately thunderstorms rolled in around 1:30pm resulting in a delay of approximately 40 minutes which did seem to disrupt a few players rhythms once play restarted.
Very many thanks go to everyone at the club who ensured the day ran smoothly, despite the challenging weather, in particular the catering & bar staff who worked tirelessly to provide the players with food & drink; Anne Mrowiec – N&C Vice Captain – and her team of ball spotters; the pro shop staff & greenkeepers and, for the organisation of the day, events organiser Corrina Rinaldi. Airlie Dyson, County President was our starter for the day and presented the prizes.
Gross Competition
The winner of the Edna Simmons Bowl, and 1st Scratch Prize, was Jane Sly (Mill Ride) with a gross score of 69

2nd Scratch prize was Sheree Dove-Wilde – (MR/CH) with a gross 71
3rd scratch prize was Linda Hunt (N&C) with a gross 72
And 4th scratch prize was Sarah Heath (G&S) with a gross 73
This competition has an aggregate prize for the best Gross score accumulated from the Spring and Autumn 1st Division rounds.
This year our winner was Jane Sly (MR) with a total gross over the 2 rounds of 151.

Nett Competition
The Winner of the Coronation medal and 1st best Nett prize on the day, was Jacqui Quilter (SM) with a Nett 63 ocb.
2nd place was Ann Williams (G&S) with a Nett 63
And 3rd place was Helen McCabe (SM) with a Nett 65 ocb from Jo Grieve (N&C).
Again, in this competition we have the Helen Brown Sauce Boat, which is awarded for the aggregate Nett accumulated score in the Spring and Autumn meetings. This year our winner was Jacqui Quilter (SM) with a Nett total of 137.
