Spring Div 2 & 3 Report 2025

Held at Royal Ascot Golf Club on Wednesday 21st May 2025

Many thanks to Royal Ascot Golf Club for being wonderful hosts of the 2nd and 3rd Division Spring meeting of Berkshire Women’s Golf.  We had 32 entries from several clubs and after a couple of late withdrawals we had 17 players vying for the 2nd Division trophies and 13 for the 3rd Division victory.  It was lovely to see a number of ladies playing who are new to County Competitions, and we as Competition Hosts very much enjoyed meeting and chatting to you all.

Despite the background rumbling of thunder the weather was kind with not as much rain as we had feared there might be. The course was in lovely condition and looked in beautiful condition.  Both sections enjoyed the challenge of the course with the majority of scores spreading from the mid-twenties to mid-thirties.  This was assisted by the excellent number of home course entrants – we would love to see again at future events for Division 2 & 3 at other courses in the County.

Thanks are due to Royal Ascot for allowing the use of their course, to the Lady Captain Barbara Martin for arranging a Starter and Ball Spotter (thanks to Jane and Paula for doing the honours) and to all of the Green Keepers and Royal Ascot staff for their help and support in preparing for and executing the event – they couldn’t have been more helpful which was greatly appreciated.

All players came in to a well-deserved and delicious lunch of Lasagne, Garlic Bread and Salad which was enjoyed by all the competitors – and the Competition Hosts too!

Our County Captain Jules Tarr was on hand to present the prizes which were as follows; 

2nd Division

The Aspect Trophy is awarded for the Highest Scratch Stableford Score and the winner for 2025, retaining the trophy she won in 2024, was:

Gillian Trowbridge from Royal Ascot with a score of 15.

Runner up was Lesley Roberts from Sonning Golf Club with a score of 14.

     In 3rd place was Sharon Edwards from Royal Ascot with a score of 13.

The beautiful Coronation Bronze Medal dating from 1911 is one of the nicest trophies we have in Berkshire County and is awarded for the best Nett Stableford score by a 2nd Division player.  This years winner was:

Lesley Roberts from Sonning with 36 points

In 2nd Place was Angelika Mason with 35 points on countback from 3rd placed Gillian Trowbridge. 

In 4th Place was Dewi Pelita with 33 points, winning on Countback.

The top 8 scores in the 2nd Division Nett Competition have also qualified for the Ann Bryant Bronze Championship knock out and the full list of qualifying players is below.  You will all be contacted by Ann Pennell – the organiser of this event and further information is on the BWG pages should you wish to know more.

3rd Division

The winner of the 3rd Division Stableford competition was Helena Cahill from Royal Ascot with a score of 36 points. It is wonderful to see ladies playing in a County event for the first time and being successful.  Congratulations Helena.

In 2nd place was Sheenagh Purcell, also from Royal Ascot with a score of 35 points.

Finishing in 3rd place was Jo Pittard from Mill Ride with 33 points (on countback).

Congratulations to all the winners, and thank you to everyone who took entered.

It was lovely to see so many familiar and new faces taking part in the County 2nd and 3rd Division competition again this year and we hope you all enjoyed the day.
